Aroha Bikes

Aroha Bikes uses bikes as a pathway for connection, wellbeing, and skill development for rangatahi aged 12–24. Grounded in the belief that movement supports both physical and mental wellbeing, the kaupapa creates a supportive environment where rangatahi can build confidence, learn practical skills, and strengthen their sense of purpose.
A key part of the programme is spending time outdoors, encouraging rangatahi to engage with te taiao through riding, trail work, and active experiences in natural spaces. Being outside supports hauora, strengthens connection to place, and provides a positive outlet for energy, learning, and exploration.
The moemoeā of the Paihikara kaupapa is to increase rangatahi engagement through accessible, skill-based learning that promotes independence, wellbeing, and future pathways. By learning how to recycle, maintain, and ride their own bikes, rangatahi gain practical mātauranga, confidence, and transferable life skills that support their journey beyond the programme.
