Puritia mai rā te tika hei kōrero Puritia mai rā te pono hei wānanga Puritia mai rā te aroha hei awhina i te ngākau A tangata Kia tū, kia atea, kia mārama Hui ē, Tāiki ē!
Allow the truth of the mind to speak freely Allow the truth of the heart to learn Allow the love of humanity to be open to the opportunities So as to stand unencumbered and with clarity Let us be one We have united in conscious thoughts
The purpose of this karakia is to open a space, hui, wananga or day. This particular karakia tīmatanga places tika, pono and aroha at the forefront of minds to help focus the kaupapa. Setting this intention helps ensure the kaupapa flows smoothly and brings us all together on a shared foundation. It is appropriate to use this karakia to open spaces or when starting kaupapa or hui. It is not generally used to close spaces as its kupu don’t reflect this – the only exception would be when there is intention to continue reflection or you are re-launching your roopu into action.
