Tautiaki Tānga Manawa
Tautiaki Tānga Manawa is a prevention-focused programme which provides mātua with respite in their role as a parent. The primary objective of this programme is to provide support before a whānau environment becomes escalated. A pre-arranged period is set and tamariki engage in positive, fun and engaging activities ensuring they also receive a form of respite. This gives mātua a chance to do something positive for themselves, whether that means going out and having a nice meal, or simply having a sleep-in. By having this time apart, we provide an opportunity for rest and rejuvenation, we can reduce stress, and provide relief to family members in vulnerable situations. As a result, we find there are positive benefits for whānau as a whole and healthy relationships become more sustainable within the whare.
Whakatauki
“E kore te matau e rawe ki te moana takai ai, engari anō a uta” - It is not proper to prepare the hook at sea, rather it should be done on shore. Don’t wait until the last minute to do something; be prepared, act early.
